I love the blurry blue gradient separation between the sea and sky.. when I can’t tell where the sea ends and sky begins… I love washing the waves crash in all their might unafraid to take up the space they need to be their loud and powerful selves 🌊✨ On top of that, I love this article and the way it’s filled me with love and wonder tonight! Thank you!🫶

I love this comment, hehehe!! Thank you for reminding me of the beauty in that liminal space between sea and sky.. I don't live near the ocean but some of my favourite memories took place there.. it is so humbling to witness the power and energy of mama ocean. Thank you for reading this! <3

I say sea because recently I’ve had the opportunity to live near the Mediterranean… but my first memories of this liminal space was in Chicago with Lake Michigan. Really, any huge body of water that extends to the edge of the visible Earth works🥰 Thank you for writing Sonja!🫶

how blissful to live near the Mediterranean! I’ll actually be swimming in that sea for my first time soon, in Spain. So excited!! I’ve always been drawn to water though.. I grew up in a small lakeside town in BC Canada, so lakes definitely have my heart in a special way <3 water is life

Ahhh where will you be? My Mediterranean experience was also in southern Spain in Málaga! But anywhere along the coast, you'll have a blast! (Definitely get you though... freshwater >>> )

I really enjoyed this little list of things that you love. It’s inspired me to write my own list which feels so warming and nourishing to be intentionally directing my awareness there 🥰

This warms my heart up!! I’m elated that this inspired you to write your own. I’d love to read it! And it can be so healing to direct our awareness to the things we love, as a practise.. I was definitely doing so in order to get out of a chaotic/fearful headspace. It always works <3

I love when somebody’s art (like this) makes me stop and reflect about my own life

I love synchronicities, the first time I read the definition of synchronicity I said out loud « hey universe if synchronicity is real send me a sign » I got to work and the first email I opened was the word of the day email. Guess what it was.

I love when the universe immediately responds in an embarrassingly playful way. Like when yesterday I texted a friend over sharing and right at that moment the lyrics over my speaker played out singing 🎶 I should probably keep all that to myself🎶

I love shared eye contact during a special moment. The kind of thing where you’re out and witness something wild funny strange or all 3 and look around and lock eyes with someone near by and you both confirm without words that what we saw was real

I love that while I was in the botanical gardens writing this a stranger came up to me to ask me about my shoes. I ended up taking my shoe off to show her what it looked like inside and she saw the name was dragonfly! She squealed with delight, she loves dragonflies! I am now waiting for her to come out of the washroom as she asked me to stick around so we can continue our conversation♥️ all of this because I saw your note♥️

Ohmygosh like really…we had already exchanged numbers and it got to the point where I turned to her and said « if we keep going like this there will be no reason to ever talk to each again I mean what is there left to be said » she threw back her head and laughed and laughed

She had shown me a YouTube video she was sent that day. It’s in Spanish but the lyrics are all a call for women around the world to wake up to their divine power and take their rightful place. I texted her asking her to send it to me so when she does I’ll edit this comment and include the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUWf7dzJ3T8

My comfort movie is probably scott pilgrim vs the world because it’s so fun and the lines are so quotable. Everything I’ve seen about the movie after it came out made it seem like everyone involved had such a good time together and that also really makes me happy.

I loved how you described this:

“i want to bottle this preciousness in an antique vial. i want to parade it all about town in an over-the-top float complete with a marching band.”

And how it’s slightly similar to something I wrote a couple years ago:

“But with the passage of time,
I find I want to speak less,
breathe more,
and just be.
I want to use fewer words
to speak larger truths,
distill the essence
of my awareness
into a bottle
like a love potion,
to be passed on to others,
from one mouth to another,
till we’re all entranced and intoxicated,
left speechless by Your magical presence.”

And how “to bottle this preciousness” is what we’re all trying so hard to do with our art and writing.

I love whimsy, too, and storytelling - the movies “Big Fish”, “Princess Bride”, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. And!connecting with people deeply or through witty banter. Feeling child-like and full of wonder. Sweetness. Being still within the chaos.

"fewer words to speak larger truths" YESSS this is beautiful! I resonate so deeply with what you wrote. I'm excited to read more from you! Princess Bride was such a classic in my house growing up, soooo good. Eternal Sunshine always makes me cry in the best way. Happy to be still within the chaos with you, from afar :)

I love talking to people about random things. It don't have to be anything crazy, but the more unusual and inordinate the better. Also, my comfort movie definitely has to be a tie between A Knight's Tale (with Heath Ledger), Howl's Moving Castle, and The Labyrinth. There's other films I enjoy deeply, but these three seem to be my go to ones most of the time. Then again I could watch anything Hayao Miyazaki has created on repeat without fail.

I feel you on how the topic doesn't so much matter.. the more unusual the better but also it's lovely to just be chatting at all! Especially when it's unexpected :) Omg I forgot about the Knight's Tale!! I loved it as a kid cause I had a huge crush on Heath lol.. The Labyrinth is made by Jim Henson! Yassss so good <3 I also love Miyazaki films, I think my fav is Princess Mononoke and Howl's is my second. They are masterpieces!

I'd love to have a marathon with some fellow writers someday. One of the things I miss the most is having writer friends to chill with (that doesn't require paying an absurd amount of money to attend). I have an app extension on my laptop called Teleparty, and it is perfect for exactly that, watching films and hanging out. It just seems next to impossible to cater to all the timezone differences and everyone's work schedules.

But back on topic .. I've always been the introverted-extrovert kind of person (aka I don't typically reach out, but when someone engages with me in convo I'll run at the mouth). Point being, I love getting unexpected messages from time to time as well! Also, who didn't have a crush on Heath?! Dude was as charismatic as they come. Humble to a fault, too!

Teleparty sounds so fun!! I gotta check that out. Oh my gosh and Heath in Ten things I Hate about You 🥹

Expand full comment

That movie is such a classic! But, yeah, Teleparty is such a great extension to have installed on your browser. I mean everyone has to have their own streaming account, so it isn't like you can use yours and everyone else watches (which you can do with Zoom Pro, funnily enough), but it still is a lot of fun. I used to have a group of people I could chill with, but we've since parted ways (life stuff). I do sincerely miss the hangs, though.
