So cool. I kept reviewing the contents of my purse in my mind while reading this. I carry a small purse these days because years of multiple diaper bags kind of jaded me on carrying much. But I LOVE purses and have a collection of second-hand ones, mostly Fossil and Orla Kiely, lots of birds and bright patterns. It makes me happy to carry a pretty purse, even if there's not much in it.

I love the way you took your power back by carrying a small bag now, after being required to carry so much before (for others) - and the birds and bright patterns sound sooo perfect! I used to carry ginormous purses in high school lmao cause it was the fashionable thing back then, now I love a smaller/medium sized option mostly because my shoulders get sore hahaa

Sonja, I adore this!! As someone who carries a bag everywhere (which bag however, tends to vary depending on what I'm doing), I've always found it mind blowing when someone doesn't carry one... Like where do all your precious things go?!

I'd love to take part in this too!

Me too! I definitely feel like to get to know someone better through their bag contents!

Ahh yes! I'll try to get to it over the weekend 🤍

I love the intimacy of this. It makes me really think about the things that say so much about who we are. It’s almost as if you get to know a person without ever really seeing them from these kind of photos. Thank you for the contemplation.

This is the first I’ve seen of this type of examination of the contents of purses. What an interesting observation. the things that bring us security - what an interesting idea for a photography series! And now I want to see them all.

For a long time when I rode a motorcycle, I didn’t carry a purse. Only a wallet, a lip balm, and a phone, all zipped up in various pockets in my jacket. Occasionally I carried a backpack, but it depended on whether I had class after work, my cycle, was going to the gym, etc. Now, though, I’d be lost without a bag.

Also your grandma’s purse is gorgeous!!

I wanna see them all too hahaha, hoping that a lot of people submit theirs to be added to this post! A couple people have already which is so fun!

And I love the motorcycle tale here.. having everything in the jacket zippers is so COOL and also freeing!! the liberation you must have felt to be whizzing around the roads like that!

I read your comment like right before I fell asleep last night and I think it influenced my dream ahahah because in the dream I was at the waterslides. But I have my phone on me and so I zipped it into this "water jacket" thing lol before going down this big slide.. and then I lost my phone because I gave the jacket to a staff member and he stole it & replaced it with a flip phone LOL 😭 it felt like a nightmare ahahahah

I am absolutely obsessed with this!!!! I teared up reading this. I have the same nostalgia about my mother's purse, and now that I'm a mother it's fun to curate mine for my daughter. She already loves going through it and she's only one and a half! Submitting my purse first thing tomorrow when it's light out lol

My heart!!! The way that our purse curiosity begins so young.. and with our mothers.. it is so special, and I love how now you're on the other side of it for your daughter! I was so giddy to see your submission this morning you truly made my day!! <3333

Oh wow! So cool. I often have felt jealous for the purse thing women are allowed to carry. Such a treasure and mystique. See Orhan Oahmuk Museum of Innocnece. Object carry so much and we carry them. They carry us too!

So true - the way we carry and are carried. All at once! You could totally rock a bag, Papa, no rules!! Just vibes!!

That is such a gorgeous concept…it reminds me of the Lipstick photographs by Stacey Greene! These possessions of ours aren’t permanent but the marks we leave on them say so much ❤️ thank you for capturing and reflecting on such beauty!

Never too late to pick one up and put some stuff inside 👀 it has always baffled me how some or most men don’t have one!! Raw dogging stuff in pockets.. I simply could never ahaha but I kinda wish I could??

If I can use my wallet and common pocket items, I could make a collage out of that stuff?

I love those photos too! I came across another set on Instagram of 2010s what’s in my bag. All these old different types of cellphones. I also think it’s interesting what it says about the carrier, what’s so important you NEED to carry it with you.

Ohhhh I'd love to see that one too! I wish I kept all my old flip phones from the early 2000s.. would have been so epic to make art out of them now!! And you're so right, the implied necessity by the act of physically carrying something & it's weight.. a sacred bond between the human & the object
