burning questions

that keep me awake at night

Today, Maria Giesbrecht (also known as theguelphpoet on Instagram) asked us to write a poem using only questions. Here is my attempt at just that!

i should try and get some sleep but
am i doing any of this right? why
does it feel like everybody
is in on a secret and i'm late
to the punchline? when did
i last see the sun and why
do i cry when i’m angry? and
at the grocery store? do i look
older than i am, will i be warned

before my last droplet of youth
spills? what exact dose of acid
did The Beatles take when
they wrote Revolver? i’d like
that exact amount and i should try
and get some sleep but have you
ever wondered if the last
ape-looking version of humans
knew they were the last one?
and do people really

attend their own funerals? i wonder
if you ever think of me.. where do you
keep your broken promises? i should
try and get some sleep - did you ever
actually love me? or just how
i made you feel? if we had met

earlier, would anything
be different? will humanity destroy
outer space, too? when
will we learn to hold things
without breaking them?
