the title of today’s post came from Ozark (season 4 episode 9) which i’m currently watching for the first time — incredible writing! great show. the plot has even seeped into my dreams, which is how you can tell it’s a good one. i’d like to use it as a poem title, maybe tomorrow.. or perhaps at the end of this memoir piece if i get inspired. i have no plan here, i am just going to write!

january has been brighter and warmer than i thought, both metaphorically and literally. i do this thing every year on New Years Eve or just after, where i do my “year ahead spread” which is a tarot spread with 13 cards; 1 for each month of the upcoming year & the 13th as the overall year card. at the beginning of every month, i look at the card & its meaning and i ponder what it means for my life. this is my 2025 spread:

using two different Wild Unknown decks by Kim Krans

you’ll notice i pulled two cards for each month of 2025.. that’s because i realized i can do whatever i want!! lol.. anyways this tarot spread has launched me into this new year which has already been illuminating. reach out if you want to try the year ahead spread, and if you want more info on how to get started. it’s something i’ve enthusiastically shared with all of my close friends for many years now & i love getting new people onto the ritual!

one thing i’ve been manifesting for 2025 is to do more poetry and writing-related things out in the physical world. in my city, local commuity, etc. i began sharing my writing in 2020 and have since kept it as this thing i do alone, in my room, like a gremlin or troll. which is fine but i wanted to practise reading poetry aloud in a room full of people, rather than only on TikTok live.

which leads me to the fact that i recently won a local poetry prize!! myself and the other winners will be reciting our poems at an event on January 31st! and our poems will be displayed on the museum’s walls for 3 months.. i’m beyond thrilled :) this is just the beginning!!

come if you’re in Calgary!!

i’ve also continued organizing my stuff and buying furniture for my office / art room / writing space which i’m calling my CREATION CAVERN. i’m now at the part where i choose paint for the walls and i think i’ll go with Global Green from Behr.. after painting a couple of samples on the walls, i’m totally smitten.
