it’s that time again, folks.. Escapril is almost upon us!! if you’re not familiar, Escapril is a month-long poetry writing frenzy in April. poets use the prompts provided to write & share a new poem every day of the month. basic rules [can be broken or bent]:
find a prompt
write a poem with it
share your poem
devour each other’s work!!
the term Escapril was coined by Savannah Brown, the lovely poet who runs the @letsescapril page on Instagram. in the six years since its inception, many other poets have thrown their own prompts into the basket, too — myself included!
this will be my fourth year participating in Escapril, and my second year sharing my own prompts for the occasion. since our beloved friendly ghost of the OG Escapril will not be hand-feeding us prompts this year (as she announced recently) i hope that mine will suffice and/or reveal some inspiration.
i have 1 prompt for each day of #escapril2025 here for you 🧺 i’m sharing them early this year for all of you plotters & planners hehe! the ritual goes like this: write & share your poem + make sure u tag me [
] and use the hashtag #sonjaringoprompts if sharing to IG, so that i can feast on your words. have fun with it!! push yourself!last year i ate a weed gummy for the writing & posting of a poem and it was an interesting journey.. that poem has now found a place in my upcoming book! i find that each year, this month-long poetry event brings so many surprises & potent abundant magic.. i can’t wait to see what you all write <3

from last year..
Thank you for these prompts! I'm so excited for April.
Hmmm, a weed gummy you say? I’m hitting a rut while drafting my next book so that sounds like a good idea. Let me experiment and catch up on the first two days, thanks for the prompts!
