dear person who does not care if i live or die

📧 a poem 📧

i wrote this poem a few months ago after being laid off from my remote corporate tech job without warning. applying for jobs is a strange form of modern torture in my opinion, and so this poem was born from my cauldron of feelings as i navigated daily mountains of rejection letters.

i still haven’t found a job but i have written A LOT OF POETRY, which has been wonderful since being my own boss as a poet/author is the job i actually want! this poem was inspired by the prompt “cover letter” from Lorraine Fae on Instagram, and you’ll find it in my forthcoming poetry collection [set to be available early 2025].

Dear PERSON WHO DOES NOT CARE IF I LIVE OR DIE,

I was excited to see your job listing for LOVERGIRL WITHOUT BOUNDARIES at GASLIGHT GATEKEEPCORE INC on SINDEED. As a DELICATE BABY FAWN with over 20 years of experience in YEARNING, I’m confident I would be a valuable asset to your UNDERMINE & DEVALUE department.

Your job listing mentions a need for someone who is experienced in MAKING EXCUSES FOR OTHER PEOPLE’S QUESTIONABLE BEHAVIOUR and IGNORING THEIR OWN NEEDS, both of which areas I have extensive experience in. I’m currently employed at LOVE OR LIMERENCE LABS where I’ve honed my skills by PUTTING OTHERS ON A PEDESTAL and BEING CONSUMED.

While employed here, I’ve CURATED SADGIRL PLAYLISTS ON SPOTIFY which successfully LAUNCHED MY PHOEBE BRIDGERS ADDICTION, contributing substantially to the department’s OVERALL DISTASTE FOR ME AS A PERSON.

I’m confident that my proven track record of ACCEPTING CRUMBS, IGNORING RED FLAGS, and INDULGING IN DELUSIONS will make me an immediate asset at GASLIGHT GATEKEEPCORE INC and allow me to contribute to the team’s success.

I look forward to discussing the LOVERGIRL WITHOUT BOUNDARIES position and my qualifications with you in more detail - thank you so much for your time and consideration.
