i used to write songs, but i haven’t in years. until this one poured out last week and took me by surprise. i guess it makes sense, with Black Friday and Christmas and Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy swirling around lately.
then there’s my average screen time of 4+ hours per day & the overconsumption-core content that comes with such things. and having grown up in the 90’s/early 2000s with Cosmopolitan magazine, Kate Moss.. little girls are sold conventional beauty standards for profit from the moment they learn to read and comprehend language.
so many things inspired this song.. but rather than explain it further, how about i just show you? :)
it’s called click here, fix you <3
lyrics:
how to dress for your skin tone
here’s why you need a BBL
oh god you’re wearing last year’s clothes
your next glow up, an antidote
to the thing that we designed
and sold you just last spring
but that one’s old
click here to fix your lips
your eyebrows, nose and thighs
gather round and drink our Koolaid
’til you rot from the inside
click to see how we poisoned
the rivers, oops wrong link
here’s why your hair is falling out
here’s a ten step skincare routine
tap to play with us, a game with us
one we never lose
click to get the guy
buy our snail serum
we promise hot girls never cry
sign on the dotted line, oh yeah
we take apple pay
hop on this trend or get left behind
click before you change your mind
click here, we’ll make you the girl
that everybody wants
to either be, or have sex with
until the next one comes along
until the thing you bought last paycheque
is outdated, until it’s old
we’ll be here waiting
to tell you that you’re ugly
if you don’t
tap to play with us, a game with us
one we never lose
to fix you

oh my gosh. this gave me the chills. this is so, so good. so good.
Seriously! What they’ve said already and more. Just…wow!
Maybe you should get back to writing more music—you’ve got it going on. This has Joni Mitchell, Indigo Girls, Sarah McLachlan, Kate Bush, and Delores O’Riordan vibes. Now I wonder who are your influences?
