everything is art!!

on the human experience as a creative act

Lately I’ve been dwelling in a space of wonder, thinking about how everything we see, do, and interact with is art. The heart beating inside our collective creative ribcage swells when we approach life in this way - how can we allow everything we do to be infused with art? How can art permeate our daily lives, even in the seemingly mundane?

. the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

"the art of the Renaissance"

When we allow ourselves to exist as creative beings without attachment to whether we are “artists” as a “career” [or other limiting judgements], we can experience more joy and possibly discover unknown parts of ourselves and others. Nothing is above or below art, it permeates the entire living breathing world around and within us. We all have access to this sacred energy at all times.

Here are a few things I’ve decided to embrace as art, with the intention of merging myself more deeply with the juicy creative ether-space:

• the way you eat an ice cream cone. do you mold it meticulously with your tongue how a potter shapes clay with their fingers?
  or do you bite?

• the clothes you wear to run errands. or to a party, or on a promising second date. what fabrics and textures do you adorn your body with? what colours do you bestow upon the spaces you fill?

• the songs you play in the kitchen with while cooking dinner. music undulating atop the air infuses with fragrant spices. how your body sways to the sounds as you chop vegetables and simmer sauces.

• the way you fall in love

• the way you make love

• the way you grieve when love dries up

• to communicate + perceive + be perceived. how do you navigate the eyes and soul of a stranger, a colleague, a friend from high school? the 7/11 clerk, your mother? how people feel in your presence is art.

• the story behind your favourite perfume.

• the way you eat a rotisserie chicken with your bare hands in a grocery store parking lot.

• the way you talk faster when something excites you.

• the things you dream about at night are born someplace between art and hallucination - the subconscious, unhinged. the liminal space of your dreams is your canvas.

• your bath ritual. chamomile bath bombs infuse with candlelight and condensation. dried flower petals lick the baby hairs on your arms. weightless like you’re in the womb again.

• the tone of your voice when you answer the phone [it is uniquely yours].

• social media as a playground for creative experimentation. the images you devour, the moments and musings that you post. the videos you send to your best friend saying “it’s us!!”. we are all born storytellers.

• the way you don’t need a map in your hometown cause it’s lodged beneath your skin.

• the contents of your junk drawer.

• what do you see when you look up at the moon? have you noticed she is winking?
